IT Security Trends - PCI DSS

Making Security and Compliance a Priority – The Path to Secure Customer Data

If the recent retail and consumer data breaches have taught us anything, it is that the next attack could happen at anytime and anywhere. This is, unfortunately, the new retail IT reality – hackers and cyber thieves are constantly inventing new and more devious ways to break through retail security defenses.

And, the situation is bound to get worse as new computing and consumer electronics devices provide unparalleled access to company and consumer information stored on retail IT systems. Now, consumers are increasingly using their cell phones to browse, shop, send e-mail, or even access bank and credit card account information, creating countless possibilities to access and transfer sensitive financial information on-the-go. This rise of mobile e-commerce is forever changing the landscape, giving criminals a host of new opportunities to hack consumer transaction and credit card data, regardless of where the data actually resides.

Product News – SSH Tectia ConnectSecure 6.0

While SFTP is a straightforward method for implementing file transfer security, securing environments currently relying on large numbers of unsecured FTP transfers may pose unexpected challenges for deployment projects. Large enterprise environments may have thousands of existing FTP scripts, which daily business processes depend upon. In-house applications utilizing OS-level FTP calls may be difficult to re-engineer. In many cases, even mapping out and documenting the existing FTP connections for migration planning is a project in itself.

These characteristics may make migration to native SFTP a time-consuming and potentially costly approach, not easily executed within the strict schedule deadlines set by auditors.
To enable securing FTP in a fast and cost-effective manner, SSH Tectia ConnectSecure offers the capability to transparently tunnel FTP through a Secure Shell tunnel, or alternatively to automatically convert it to SFTP on-the-fly – all without having to touch or re-engineer the original FTP scripts or applications.
